Dear NOTA Members,

Dr. Leland D. Wright Jr. passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 10, 2012. An ATA-certified Spanish->English translator, he was a life member of the American Translators Association (1975-present), an ATA Director from 1978-1984, a certification exam grader, and former chair of the Spanish graders group. Lee founded the Northeast Ohio Translators Association (NOTA) and was a long-term fixture on the Executive Committee. A former editor of the ATA Chronicle, he frequently contributed to the Chronicle and to NOTA BENE, the NOTA newsletter (which he named).

Lee was a 1970 graduate of Washington University in St. Louis, with his PhD degree in Hispanic Languages and Linguistics. In addition to running his own translation company (Wright & Associates), he shared his gift with students, having taught most recently at Kent State University and online through the NYU School of Continuing and Professional Studies. With Alan Melby and a small group of developers, he played an instrumental role in developing Mercury-Termex, the first PC-based translation-oriented terminology management program.

He leaves behind his devoted wife, Dr. Sue Ellen Wright, and loving daughter, Dr. Elena Kramer. Memorial donations can be made to the American Foundation for Translation and Interpretation, Inc. (AFTI) in his name.
Welcome to NOTA!
NOTA was founded in 1977, established as a not-for-profit corporation in Ohio in 1978, and recognized as the second Permanent Chapter of the American Translators Association (ATA) in 1979. NOTA membership is open to anyone working in the translation or interpretation industry.

NOTA promotes professional development and competence through workshops, seminars, and its newsletter. Members maintain a support network for mutual assistance and cooperation, terminology exchange, and continued professional development in Northeast Ohio.

NOTA also assists area businesses, industry, and institutions in locating competent translators and interpreters. However, NOTA does not provide or recommend translation or interpretation services. To contract services with a member listed in this directory, please click on Find a Translator/Interpreter and contact him or her directly. If you are a business and you are interested in working with translators and interpreters, we recommend this free ATA publication: Translation: Getting it right. A guide to buying translations.
